Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Law - Civil / Private / Trade / Anti Trust Law / Business Law, King`s College London (School of Law), course: International Labour Law, language: English, abstract: The phenomenon of globalisation has triggered various trends and changes world-wide, affecting almost every part of life. One of the most heavily influenced realms has been labour and its legal framework. Globalisation has transformed the nature of work as well as the organisation and way in which work is performed nowadays. Due to the technical progress, Multinational Corporations have been equipped with an immense ability to relocate their business wherever and whenever they want to any part of the world, powerful enough to dictate their demands to national governments. National governments have, simultaneously, been weakened and especially developing countries are competing with each other in order to attract MNCs, often by adopting and maintaining low labour standards with the result of a feared "race to the bottom". Additionally, the International Labour Organisation, historically the main standard-setting institution, has experienced enormous problems in the implementation process and has therefore undergone a paradigm shift. Moreover, other actors have entered the arena of "standard-setting" such as NGOs etc. This essay tries to analyse the challenges of globalisation posed to international labour standards, especially experienced by the ...

Traditionally, households in developing economies have remained source(s)of labour to farms and off-farms.Gaps however, have existed on issues associated with gender on supply of labour to units where such labour are needed. This study empirically has estimated Full-time equivalence of supplied labour and their associated incomes in farms and rural off-farm works. The investigation is a treatise that not only exposed factors that influenced labour supplies along gender lines to farms and off-farm jobs but estimated gender differences in incomes earned by households. It is a study that will be of great value to researchers on gender issues, and advocates of workers' welfare, and policy makers in their efforts to curb indolence and harmonize farm and off-farm labour management.

This works examines how labour was raised and exploited in colonial Zimbabwe's tea plantations. It shows the centrality of labour to the system and how difficult it was to raise it. It is also a manifestation of the trials and tribulations Africans met at the hands of their colonisers. The book can also be used to examine labour mobilization in other sectors of the economy. The case study of tea is interesting as it is a labour-intensive crop. As such labour on tea plantations has to be readily available, at all times and at all cost. Nevertheless, Africans as people on the receiving end devised means and ways of outdoing the system. Read on.
With a limited labour market, it was felt that the free movement of labour would bring about a number of complications for Malta's already limited labour market. This thesis details the principle of this freedom in the European Union, how it has affected countries throughout the Union, before outlining what impact it left on Malta and what provisions Malta made use of in order to protect its market in the years following accession.
Partogram as a single inexpensive tool to provide a continuous pictorial overview of labour. Most partograms have three distinct sections where observations are entered on maternal condition, foetal condition and labour progress. The last section is the central feature of partogram which is a graphical representation of cervical dilatation against time and assists in the detection of prolonged labour. Detection of prolonged labour is important as both postpartum haemorrhage and infection are more common in women with prolonged labour. These risks are greater in the developing countries with poorly resourced health services.Hence the present study is timely and important to develop adequate knowledge and practice in maintaining partogram by Nurses and Midwives for conducting a safe delivery and thereby improving maternal and fetal outcomes.
The main focus of this book is to examine married women's participation in the labour force in the state of Perak, in Malaysia. It starts with an overview of married women's participation in the labour force in Malaysia. Extensive data have been obtained from the married women. The results revealed that married women in the labour are facing challenges to balance responsibility between work and family. The biggest challenges they are facing in labour force with respect to child-bearing and child-rearing. Some women desire to leave their jobs willingly and return to family because of childbearing and other responsibilities. Conversely, they are concerned about their economic contribution to their families. Women's participation in the labor force has the significant impact on the overall development of the country. By giving the importance and demands of women's participation in the labour force, the book suggests the implication of family friendly policy and its' appropriate practice with respect to flexible time work arrangements that may provide to support to women as well as to increase their participation in the labour force.
The financial crisis in 2008 has gone but its affection still left the EU a disaster behind for example: Greece with highest record government debt, Spain and Portugal with the alarm rate of unemployment and Italy with a red inflation. The German economy is however a good exception. Its industrialization has well developed and brought a positive GDP and a number of job to the labour market. This number of job has grown rapidly that created its own excess labour demand situation. It is now addressed as an serious issue, which will escalate in the next decade. Germany needs urgent additional manpower. Labour immigration is one of their best option. But lets not the immigration history repeating, like the Turkish labour immigrants in the BDR 1960s incidence or the mistreated Vietnamese guest workers in the GDR 1980s. A well-organized integration plan is also what it needs. Therefore I suggest the suitable approaches from the macro and micro aspects such as: combine the international economic relations (labour as main factor) with regional economic long term development (effective productivity as main purpose). Managing the cross culture issue is also very important: respecting each nation and recognizing each identity. The main purpose of this book is to prove that the labour immigration is the right solution for Germany and the right approaches.
