Bram Stoker was an Irish novelist, best known today for his universally famous gothic novel "Dracula", the main villain of which is still one of the most popular antagonists in the modern media. "The Lady of the Shroud" is a gothic novel that tells the story of Rupert Saint Leger. He inherits an estate worth more than one million pounds, but on one condition: he must live for a year in his uncle's castle in the Land of the Blue Mountains, near the Dalmatian coast However, one night, a pale woman wearing a wet shroud visits the estate. She dries herself and stays for the night but flees before morning. It takes several visits for Rupert to fall in love, despite believing that she is a vampire living in the crypt.

This eloquent and generously illustrated book asserts that artists were fascinated by and extremely skilled at still life significantly earlier than previously thought. Instead of the genre beginning in the early 17th century, noted scholar David Ekserdjian explores its origins in classical antiquity and the gradual re-emergence of still life in Renaissance painting. The author presents a visual anthology of finely executed flowers, fruit, food, household objects, and furnishings seen in the background of paintings. Paintings are reproduced in full and paired with detailed close-ups of still-life elements within the work.Ekserdjian further examines both the artistic and symbolic significance of a chosen detail, as well as information about each artist's career. Featured works include radiant paintings from Renaissance greats such as Da Vinci, D'rer, Holbein, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Van Eyck, as well as the work of less-celebrated masters Barth'lemy d'Eyck and Ortolano.

Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics, as rock writer John Levy said in a recent interview on VH1, "were a phenomenon". From 1978-1988 "The Queen of Punk", "The High Priestess Of Metal", "The Dominatrix of the Decibels" and "Queen Of Shock Rock" assaulted the conformist culture of the status quo to radicalize and transform mass culture and music in ways that are still being played out today. From the banning in London, the arrests in Cleveland and Milwaukee, the death defying videos and live shows, to Wendy's Grammy nomination as "Best Female Rock Vocalist of the Year", this historic DVD with over 3 hours of material, much of it previously unreleased footage, spans the full jaw-dropping 10 years; the triumphs, the challenges, and the forces that tried to shut it all down.
Publication Date: 13 Mar 2012 The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue explore the abiding themes of still life across the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: the fruit piece, the game piece, kitchen and banquet still lifes, the flower painting, musical instruments, the cabinet of curiosities, and the trompe-loeil. The diversity of artistic treatment of these themes in different countries will be shown through related works, such as the fruit still lifes of the female artists Louise Moillon and Fede Galizia or the kitchen scenes by Jean-Simeon Chardin and Luis Melendez. Other artists who cultivated this genre and who are also represented in the exhibition and in the catalogue include Juan Sanchez Cotan, Juan van der Hamen, Pieter Claesz, Juan Zurbaran, Rembrandt van Rijn, Antonio de Pereda, Nicolas Largillierre, Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Luis de Melendez and Francisco de Goya. The exhibition has been made possible due to the commitment of the many lending institutions, private collectors and museums, such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, The Metropolitam Museum in New York, The Louvre Museum, The Prado Museum, The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, The Mauritshuis in The Hague, The National Gallery in London and the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, among so many others. This volume allows an insight into the theme, through the essays and the individual studies of all paintings, written by such scholars as Peter Cherry, John Loughman and Lesley Stevenson. Volume II, devoted to still-life painting in the 19th and 20th centuries, is due for publication in October 2011.
Always expanding the boundaries of pop music, in 1985, Sting embarked on his ambitious, first solo tour. Twenty years later and for the first time on DVD, the film Bring On The Night a brought to new life with a high-definition digital anamorphic picture transfer and digitally remastered surround audio. Originally capturing this historic event on film, critically acclaimed director Michael Apted (Coal Miner's Daughter, Gorillas In The Mist) documented the formation of "The Blue Turtles Band" featuring Omar Hakim, Darryl Jones, Kenny Kirkland, Branford Marsalis, Dolette McDonald & Janice Pendarvis. From rehearsals in an historic castle to performing their first live show at the Theatre Mogador in Paris, experience how Sting pushes the boundaries of both music and film. Chapters: 01. Before the official appearance of the animal genre in fine art, masters combined elements of art and natural history, inspired by their own love of nature. The first professional animal artists appeared in China during the T'ang dynasty in the eighth century and the Sung dynasty in the thirteenth century. In Europe, animal art first developed in the Netherlands and Flanders in the seventeenth century (Paul Potter, Frans Snyders and Jan Fyt), before spreading to France (Jean-Baptiste Oudry), Russia and other countries in the eighteenth century. For a long time, animalism was linked to such other realms of fine art as genre, landscape and still-life painting. To this day, the official borders of the genre are still unclear, particularly in decorative and applied art. Формат: 25 см x 31 см.
